Watch Dr. Dannie Chalk talk about the image of Witchcraft in Early Modern England and the common prejudices and misconception related to the art of Witchcraft and the witches. Dannie Chalk is an Assistant Professor in the Arts, Languages, and Literature Department at AUBG. Dr. Chalk got her PhD in English from the Pennsylvania State University in 2009. One of her main research interests is the British literature of 17th and 18th centuries.

John Rodrigue – Breaking the Crown: Rebellion and the King’s Image in Early Stuart England

(October 19, 2015) John Rodrigue talks about the images of kingship and the resistance to it, as these things played out in literature, drama, and polemic. Most specifically, on the “image wars” between the King and his opposition as they wrestled for the hearts and minds of the people — a struggle Charles I seemed to have lost when he lost his head, but that monarchy ultimately won. Historically, the “image wars” were one of the first PR battles to take place in Europe, and certainly in England, after 100 or more years of the printing press. John Rodrigue is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Arts, Languages, and Literature Department at AUBG.
